Campos Racing will head to Abu Dhabi as the FIA Formula 2 Championship stages the final round of the eight-event season at Yas Marina Circuit for the 13th edition of the Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix. The Spanish-based team will enter its young pair of Ralph Boschung and Olli Caldwell and expects to bring the curtain down on the 2021 season with strong results. The circuit makes a return on the calendar after last year’s absence as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. Campos Racing has a successful past at Yas Marina with several podium finishes to its credit in FIA Formula 2.

Boschung scored his first Formula 2 podium in Jeddah a few days ago, which was a well-deserved reward following his remarkable performances throughout the 2021 season. The Swiss drivers will set his sights on continuing in rostrum contention in Abu Dhabi and order to finish the season in style. Caldwell had a positive debut in the series showing good pace both in qualifying and race conditions. The points-paying positions won’t be out of reach for the Briton taking into account he already made into the top-12 at Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

The Yas Marina Circuit will feature some novelties, which were introduced to make overtaking easier. They are the first upgrades to the track since the circuit was built in 2009. The layout is now slightly shorter, 5.28km, and the main change is that the succession of 90-degree corners have been replaced by a banked curve. Other minor changes include the removal of the chicane before the first back straight or wider corners through the hotel complex. This said, the smooth surface won’t change and the tire wear will remain low.

Free practice and qualifying sessions will take place on Friday at 08.35 and 15.30 respectively. As usual, both sprint races will take place on Saturday at 09.20 and 15.45 and Sunday will be devoted to the feature race, which includes a mandatory pit-stop for a tire change, at 10.00. All times are CET.

Adrián Campos (Campos Racing Sporting Director): “We head into the final race weekend of the season in Abu Dhabi. Our goal is to achieve the full potential already seen in Jeddah as we expect to continue scoring strong results in such a competitive series. Everybody at Campos Racing is restlessly working side by side throughout the season and deserve the best season ending possible.”

Ralph Boschung (Campos Racing driver of FIA Formula 2): “I´m looking forward to Abu Dhabi, it will be interesting to see how the new layout will challenge all of us. I’m going to give my best to finish the season on a high with Campos Racing.”

Olli Caldwell (Campos Racing driver of FIA Formula 2): “Really excited to be out at Yas Marina for the final round of F2. I’ve driven this circuit before so it’s great that I was able to drive the car in Jeddah and now am able to utilize all that I learnt on a circuit I’m more familiar with.”
