WTCC season roars into life for Campos Racing in Marrakech

The only Spanish outfit in the World Touring Car Championship to contest the series once again, with Esteban Guerrieri driving their Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 this time

The World Touring Car Championship kicks off the 2017 season at Circuit Moulay El Assan next weekend, with two exciting races of the WTCC Race of Morocco counting towards the best tin-top series in the world.

Campos Racing, in its fifth season in the WTCC, will enter one of its Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 for Argentina’s Esteban Guerrieri. Argentine Guerrieri and Campos Racing made a nice start to their collaboration in the World Touring Car Championship as the Buenos Aires-born racer came 6th on his debut in the series after an impressive performance in free practice, when he topped the time sheets in both sessions. At the moment, Guerrieri has secured a five-event deal to enter the five rounds held at Morocco, Italy (Monza), Hungary (Hungaroring), Germany (Nürburgring Nordschleife) and Argentina (Termas de Río Hondo). Both driver and team feel confident to deliver a good performance and secure a deal for the rest of the season.

Morocco made its debut on the schedule in 2009 but the Circuit Moulay El Assan was transformed from street circuit to semi-permanent last year. Its characteristic layout of 2.971 kilometers flanked by walls is still one of the most challenging efforts of the season for any driver.

Saturday’s qualifying session will take place at 15.15, local time. On Sunday, Race 1 (Opening race and consisting of 18 laps) is due to start at 16.35 and Race 2 (Main race and consisting of 21) will get underway at 17.45.
