Unlucky weekend for Filippi and Campos Racing after setting pole

Corsica´s Filippi got sandwiched in race one in China and it ruined is chances to score another podium finish in the World Touring Car Championship. Filippi finished 5th in Main Race

Campos Racing and its full-time driver in the World Touring Car Championship, Corsican John Filippi, didn´t get Lady Luck on their side at Shanghai International Circuit in China. Both team and driver made a sensational start to the weekend but finally circumstances prevented them from scoring important results such as another podium finish.

Filippi set 4th-fastest time in WTCC Trophy in FP1 and then moved up to first privateer and 2nd overall in FP2, an amazing achievement ahead of qualifying. Later in qualifying, Filippi posted a lap time of 1:50.809, ranking 10th overall, ahead Tom Coronel among others, and securing pole position for Sunday´s race 1.

Unfortunately, Sunday didn´t follow the same path. Filippi dropped to fourth at the start and as early as on lap 3 he was fighting with Fredrik Ekblom, Hugo Valente and José María López. The latter collided with Filippi and it resulted in suspension damage forcing into retirement. Then, in race two and with Campos Racing mechanics working frantically to repair the Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 on time, he moved through the field to finish 5th in the WTCC Trophy.

The Race of Thailand, the penultimate round of the series, will take place on 5-6 November.
