Argentinean driver scored his second overall win in the WTCC today with an amazing performance in wet in his Campos Racing-entered Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1
Esteban Guerrieri and Campos Racing achieved their third race win in the World Touring Car Championship after their stunning triumph on Sunday’s Opening Race at the all-new Ningbo International Speedpark, which played host to the WTCC Race of China. Guerrieri set the pace in the first race of the weekend, which took place in extremely difficult weather conditions with heavy rain.
In the free practice session, Guerrieri was second fastest in the WTCC Trophy and ranked 3rd overall. Later in qualifying, the driver of Campos Racing took 7th spot on the starting grid for the Main Race and fourth on the reverse grid for the Opening Race.
With a rain-affected qualifying session on Saturday, both Sunday races were also declared wet. In the first race, after three laps under safety car conditions, it went green and Guerrieri rapidly moved up to third after overtaking Nicky Catsburg. A few moments later the Argentinean racer gained another place after passing John Filippi for second. Finally, Esteban took the lead by overtaking Yan Ehrlacher. After fifteen laps, Guerriri took the checkered flag first with Ehrlacher more than two seconds adrift down in second. Catsburg came third more than 11 seconds behind. Besides, Guerrieri’s fastest lap was more than seven tenths quicker than his closest rival.
In the second race, only three laps were completed under the safety car before it was red-flagged due to worsening weather conditions. Only half points were awarded this time.
The WTCC will head to Japan for the antepenultimate round at the Twin Ring Motegi in two weeks’ time.
