Campos Racing and Italian Leonardo Pulcini showed its strong pace in the GP3 Series once again completing a positive weekend before the summer break and keep their title bid alive. Diego Menchaca and Simo Laaksonen continued their adaptation to the competitive feeder series and the Mexican driver collected new points.
Pulcini made a nice start to the weekend by finishing fifth in free practice on Friday but still enhanced his performance on Saturday in qualifying. Pulcini produced a best lap of 1m31.515s – a mere one tenth slower than the pole position- to line up third on the starting grid. His teammates Menchaca and Laaksonen qualified 12th and 14th with lap times of 1m32.172s and 1m32.265s respectively.
In race one, which took place on Saturday afternoon, Pulcini moved up to second at the start and later consolidating it after as he pulled away from his rivals. Finally, he took the checkered flag in second place. Further adrift, Menchaca moved through the field to take eighth place and Laaksonen finished 14th.
Today, Pulcini started from seventh spot on the grid and when the lights went out, the driver of Campos Racing moved up to fifth still gaining another place after moving past Juan Manuel Correa on lap 5. Menchaca made it in the top-ten again with a tenth place with Laaksonen right behind finishing eleventh.
Pulcini currently lies third in the Drivers’ Standings on 99 points.
The GP3 Series resumes at Spa-Francorchamps on 25.26 August.
