Pepe Oriola collects valuable points with his CUPRA TCR at Ningbo

The Spaniard finished seventh and ninth in his Team Oscaro by Campos Racing CUPRA TCR. Filippi didn’t have luck on his side and suffered a double retirement and a 20th place at Ningbo

Team Oscaro by Campos Racing scored important points during the first stop of the World Touring Car Cup in China with Pepe Oriola and his CUPRA TCR battling for championship honors.

Both free practice sessions allowed Team Oscaro by Campos Racing the ideal opportunity to work on set-up of their two CUPRA TCR cars driven by Oriola and John Filippi. Later in qualifying, Spaniard Oriola qualified eleventh with a best lap of 1m51.678s with his Corsican teammate taking the 20th slot on the starting grid with a best time of 1m52.382s.

Incident-marred Race 1, held on Saturday afternoon, saw Oriola finishing 13th with Filippi retiring after four laps.

On Sunday, when a second qualifying session took place in the morning, Oriola posted the 15th fastest lap time of 1m51.190s with Filippi setting to start from 21st on the grid with a best lap of 1,51.871s.
Oriola made great progress during race 2 and moved up to ninth. He still improved his performance in race 3, which was temporarily halted for safety reasons to allow track official to rectify a kerbing issue, to secure a seventh place finish after closely-fought battles with Rob Huff, Nathanaël Berthon and Aurélien Panis. Filippi took the checkered flag in 20th.

Oriola currently sits 8th in the Drivers’ standings on 165 points with Team Oscaro by Campos Racing occupying sixth place in the Teams’ standings on 182 points.

The second Chinese round of the WTCR will take place at Wuhan next weekend.
