Campos Racing delivered a strong performance at Sochi, which played host to the penultimate round of the 2018 GP3 Series season. Italy’s Leonardo Pulcini, driving a Campos Racing-run Dallara GP3/16, scored a fantastic race win on Saturday to strengthen his position in the Drivers’ standings, in which he sits fourth on 131 points.

Pulcini led the charge of the Spain-based squad during the free practice session clocking a time of 1m53.884s. On the other hand, Simo Laaksonen and Diego Menchaca posted laps of 1m55.544s and 1m54.593s respectively. Later in qualifying, Pulcini showed excellent pace to fight for pole position. Finally, Leonardo managed to put his car on pole position with an unmatched lap of 1m52.586s to beat Callum Ilott. Laaksonen also completed a good qualifying session to line up 6th on the grid with a lap of 1m52.844s. Finally, Menchaca set to start from row nine with his 1m54.614s.

Pulcini fended off his rivals at the start and soon built a lead over Anthoine Hubert. Finally, the driver of Campos Racing took the checkered flag in first place almost four seconds ahead of Hubert. Laaksonen dropped to eighth at the beginning but finally retook two places and came sixth. Menchaca was forced to retire.

Today, Laaksonen started from third and moved up to second in the early stages. Unfortunately he spun while battling with David Beckmann, Ricard Verschoor and Joey Mawson and dropped down the order. Pulcini finally finished 8th and Laaksonen ended up 14th. Menchaca finished right behind in 15th place.

The championship will come to an end at Yas Marina on 24-25 November.
