Excellent weekend in Berlin for Mahindra Racing

Mahindra Racing, whose M3ELECTRO cars are run in collaboration with Campos Racing, claimed a double win but a 10-second penalty deprived Rosenqvist of victory in race 2. Heidfeld finished 3rd on the rostrum on Saturday

Mahindra Racing Formula E Team shone in the Berlin ePrix, which was held at Tempelholf Airport and marked the antepenultimate round of the all-electric series. Felix Rosenqvist and Nick Heidfeld, the official drivers of Mahindra Racing’s M3ELECTRO, brought home excellent results: one win, a second place – which would have been another triumph but Rosenqvist handed a ten-second penalty for unsafe release- and a third place. It made up the most brilliant display of Mahindra Racing, whose cars are run in collaboration with Campos Racing.

On Saturday morning, Rosenqvist and Heidfeld delivered a strong performance in qualifying and sealed an all-Mahindra Racing second row on the grid with their lap times of 1:08.395 and 1:08.650. Later in the race, Rosenqvist moved up to second place at the start. Finally, he overtook Lucas di Grassi for the lead and took the checkered flag in first place after 44 laps. It was his first win in the series and it also marked the team’s first win in the FIA formula E.

On Sunday, in Q2, Rosenqvist made another strong start to the day and earned a brilliant pole position by clocking a lap time of 1:08.208 beating Sebastien Buemi. Unfortunately, Heidfeld’s car experienced issues with a sensor and couldn’t maintain full power on a single lap. Rosenqvist took another commanding race win but he was given a ten second penalty and dropped to second. From the back of the field, Heidfeld put in a recovery drive to move through the field and finished tenth.

After the Berlin ePrix, Rosenqvist sits 3rd in the Drivers’ classification on 86 points. Heidfeld currently lies 5th on 63 points. Mahindra Racing is third in the Teams’ standings.

The penultimate round of the FIA Formula E will take place in New York City on 15-16 July.
