Campos Vexatec Racing and Ghiotto secure two podiums to confirm their strength in Le Castellet

Ghiotto stepped third onto the rostrum twice with his Campos Vexatec Racing Dallara F2 2018. Nissany secured his best result of the season with tenth place at Paul Ricard

Campos Vexatec Racing and Luca Ghiotto enjoyed a strong weekend during FIA Formula 2’s Round 2, which was a well-deserved result with effort paying off. Besides, Roy Nissany also rounded out the successful weekend for the team with a tenth place on Sunday, his season’s best.

Both Campos Vexatec Racing drivers made it into the top-ten in the free practice session with Ghiotto in seventh place and Nissany ninth, which was a good start to the weekend. Later in qualifying, Ghitto clocked a lap time of 1m45.109s to take 5th spot on the starting grid. Nissany’s lap of 1m46.150s left him to start from row ten.

Ghiotto started the race on the “Supersoft” compound with Nissany choosing the “Medium” tire at the beginning. When the lights went out, rain started to fall. Nissany made an excellent race start and moved up into the top-ten. In the meantime, Ghiotto spun and dropped him to the back of the field. However, Ghiotto charged back up the order to bring third place home. Nissany came 16th.

Today, Ghiotto started 6th on the grid and gained two places to move up to 4th still on lap 1. In the halfway point, the Italian driver squeezed past Nicholas Latifi into third place. When the race was coming into an end, Ghiotto got within passing distance with Louis Delétraz but finally took another third place, a mere two tenths of a second behind of the Swiss driver. Nissany was another eye-catcher through the race with excellent overtaking maneuvers on Arjun Maini and Maximilian Günther. Nissany passed them to finish tenth.

Austria’s Red Bull Ring circuit will host Round 6 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship next weekend.
