Ghiotto made a great race start today overtaking several cars. Nissany’s race was made more demanding by damage to the diffuser sustained when another rival hit him but still completed a strong performance

Campos Vexatec Racing competed at the first round of the FIA Formula 2 season at Bahrain International Circuit. The season-opener saw Luca Ghiotto and Roy Nissany showing competitive form in their Campos Vexatec Racing-run cars, which it´s a piece of all the thrilling stuff to come in 2018.

On Friday, Ghiotto posted a best time of 1m45.344s during the free practice session completing 14 laps. Nissany, with 15 laps to his tally, clocked a time of 1m46.407s. Later, he dropped several places fighting in the tight midfield battles with Maximilian Günther and Artem Markelov. He made it into the top-ten once again later before heading into the pit lane for his mandatory pit-stop on lap 17. In the dying moments of the race, Ghiotto passed Louis Deletraz and was one of the fastest drivers on soft tire compound. Finally, Luca crossed the finish line in 12th place. Nissany ended up 16th.

Today, Ghiotto’s race start was extremely good and after the first lap he did put his Campos Vexatec Racing’s Dallara in sixth place. He still managed to pass Lando Norris for fifth and kept in podium contention until the end. With four laps to go, Nick de Vryes, who was putting a recovery drive after pitting for a set of fresh tires, overtook Ghiotto, who brought sixth place home. Nissany ran in the top-ten in the first laps but another car rival damaged his car’s diffuser. After an unscheduled pit stop, he still rejoined to finish 15th and showed promising pace at the end.

The second round of the FIA Formula 2 will take place in Baku (Azerbaijan) on 28-29 April.
