Campos Vexatec Racing aims for the podium as the FIA F2 heads to Paul Ricard

Ghiotto already topped the timesheets while shaking down the new Dallara F2 2018 car in preseason. Nissany seeks first points in the frame of the 2018 French Grand Prix

Campos Vexatec Racing and drivers Luca Ghiotto and Roy Nissany will contest round 5 of the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship in Le Castellet next weekend. After a four-week hiatus from races, the Spain-based team is back in action at the Circuit Paul Ricard, the home of the French Grand Prix on the calendar. The circuit will feature its 5.84 km layout including the iconic Mistral straight. Le Castellet last hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix back in 1990 as the race moved to Magny-Cours the following season.

Paul Ricard is a fertile ground for Campos Vexatec Racing, which proved its winning run in other motorsport championships as the Euroformula F3 Open. Besides, Italian Ghiotto led the way for Campos Vexatec Racing during the preseason shakedown, which raises optimism. The Arzignano native scored three points finishes so far and expects to improve his season best fourth place. On the other hand, Nissany is making a good debut in the main F1 feeder series and his goal is to race to a maiden points finish.

The new smoother track surface should minimize tire wear and degradation but at the same time warm temperatures should make it slightly harder. Anyway, rain presents threat to race 1 on Saturday and everything might change.

Friday’s free practice session at 13.55 (CET) should set the tone for the weekend with qualifying taking place at 17.55 (CET). Saturday’s race 1 is due to start at 17.45 (CET) with race 2 scheduled on Sunday at 12.00 (CET).
