Campos Racing seeking to add to wins tally at the Hungaroring

Aitken and Maini are expecting another strong run in their Campos Racing-run Dallara cars at the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend

Campos Racing heads to Hungary for the eight round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. The Spain-based outfit will enter its pairing of Jack Aitken and Arjun Maini and is looking for a repeat of past success at the Hungaroring, which marks the final event before the summer break.

Anglo-Korean Aitken currently sits fifth in the Drivers’ championships with two wins to his name in Azerbaijan and Great Britain. Besides, Aitken secured other three podium finishes in Baku, Barcelona and Le Castellet and remains in a six-way title battle, which is expected to go all the way.

Maini showed good promise in the previous races and the Indian driver is ready to make the next step up at the Hungaroring. Maini has always performed particularly well on the Hungarian circuit. In fact, he stepped onto the podium in his GP3 Series days.

The Hungaroring, sometimes described as “Monaco without the walls”, features a 4.381 kilometer layout with a succession of slow corners. Despite its twisty nature and characteristic high temperatures, tire wear and degradation are usually low.

Both free practice and qualifying sessions will take place on Friday at 13.00 and 16.55. Saturday’s race 1 with one mandatory pit stop is scheduled at 10.10 with Sunday’s sprint race bringing the curtain down at 11.25. All times are local (GMT+2).

Jack Aitken (Driver of Campos Racing): “After a short break I’m looking forward to Hungaroring, where I’ve had good races in the past. It’s the last round before the summer break, so we’re all looking to finish this part of the season on a high.”

Arjun Maini (Driver of Campos Racing): “I’m really looking forward to hitting the track again in Hungary with Campos Racing. This was the track where I got my first podium in GP3 so it would be great to replicate that this weekend. After a strong weekend from the team in Silverstone I am hoping that we can build on that… It is a challenging circuit especially with the twisty bit in sector 2 and getting the tyres in a good operating window for qualifying and race will be the key!”

Adrián Campos (President of Campos Racing): “We climbed to the top of the podium in England again and both Jack and Arjun showed amazing pace on Sunday. Our cars’ performance is at the top of their game, this is why we are aiming for another strong weekend in Hungary with more wins looking very much in sight. Last but not least, it is also important to note that we scored a second-place finish at the Hungaroring last year, which should be a good prelude for this weekend.”
