Deledda, Fernández and Peroni showed good pace in Belgium in their Campos Racing-run Dallara F3 2019 cars as they recorded remarkable recovery drives
Campos Racing completed the sixth round of the FIA Formula 3 at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend. The Valencia-based team entered its three-car assault for Alessio Deledda, Sebastián Fernández and Alex Peroni. They made solid progress in Belgium and continue learning in the feeder series.
Peroni made a strong start by setting the 3rd-fastest lap time in the free practice session. The Australian driver clocked a lap time of 2m06.479s with Spaniard Fernández and Italian Deledda scoring times of 2m10.457s and 2m10.734s respectively. Later in qualifying session, Peroni struggled with lots of traffic and it was almost impossible to put together all sectors in a clean lap. Peroni posted a lap time of 2m06.187s to line up 11th on the starting grid. Fernández didn’t have Lady Luck on her side as a puncture prevented him from improving 25th in the timesheets with a lap time of 2m07.251s. Deledda set to start from 30th with his lap of 2m08.898s.
When the lights went out on Saturday, Peroni was forced to retire at the start after crashing into the wall when Devlin DeFrancesco hit him. Fernández and Deledda made it to the finish, the Spaniard crossing the finish line in 25th and the latter ending up 28th. On Sunday, Fernández and Peroni performed extremely well moving through the field in the 17-lap race. Fernández finished 13th and Peroni, who started from the very back of the field, took the checkered flag in 15th. Deledda finished twentieth.
The FIA Formula 3 season will continue at Monza’s “Temple of Speed” next weekend.
