Campos Racing eyes on podium position in FIA F2’s Round 2

The Spain-based team will contest the second round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship with its duo of Jack Aitken and Guilherme Samaia driving both Dallara F2 2018 cars. Another closely-fought weekend in the frame of a F1 Grand Prix is expected

No time to rest as Campos Racing is ready for FIA Formula 2 Championship’s Round 2 at Red Bull Ring this weekend. After making a positive start to the season, the Spanish outfit expects to put the pieces together to bring home a strong results with its two-car army of Dallara-built F2 cars driven by Jack Aitken and Guilherme Samaia. The championship predicts another weekend being packed full of motorsport action.

Anglo-Korean Aitken had a steady start a few days ago showing podium potential in Spielberg. Aitken put in a strong recovery drive on Sunday after a penalty ruined his chances in Race 1. He took the checkered flag in 8th place after lapping in metronomic race trim, which encourages everybody at Campos Racing ahead of this weekend.

Brazilian Samaia completed a positive FIA F2 debut at Red Bull Ring. Despite he couldn’t put together all the sectors in qualifying due to yellow and red flag, just like his teammate Aitken, the Brazilian driver made no mistakes in the races and gained extremely valuable experience at the wheel of the Formula 2 car.

The Red Bull Ring circuit features plenty of blind corners and unpredictable elements such as changeable weather and heavy traffic. It is important to complete a strong qualifying session but at the same time it is a circuit in which it isn’t that difficult to pass other drivers. Most of the corners are right-hand corners as it’s a clockwise circuit, but two of the most challenging corners are left-handers, so Red Bull Ring is all about a compromise.

Free practice and qualifying sessions take place on Friday at 12.55 and 17.00 respectively. Saturday’s feature race is scheduled at 16.45 with Sunday’s sprint race getting underway at 11.10. All times are CET.

Adrián Campos (Team Principal of Campos Racing): “We are pleased with season finally kicking off last weekend and everything went according our plan. Of course, on the racing side we expect everything will further improve with another week of work at Red Bull Ring. We have just got to keep on putting everything together from our side.”

Jack Aitken (Driver of Campos Racing): “After last weekend, we were working hard trying to understand everything after Round 1. It wasn’t a perfect start for us but we are looking forward to racing again in such special times and we expect to have another chance and get some good points and results.”

Guilherme Samaia (Driver of Campos Racing): “I’m just looking forward to getting back on track again. I want to put out there everything we learnt from the first weekend of racing. For sure, we are going to be stronger than we were a few days ago. I’m aiming at checking how well we can perform and develop this weekend.”
