Campos Racing aim to end FIA Formula 2 season on a high in Abu Dhabi

The Spain-based team will contest the season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit and its driver line-up consisting of Jack Aitken and Marino Sato

Campos Racing heads to the United Arab Emirates for the final round of the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship season, which will take place at the Yas Marina Circuit this weekend with another double header event in the frame of the Formula 1 Grand Prix. The Spanish outfit will enter the young pairing of Jack Aitken and Marino Sato, who will defend the colors of Campos Racing at the wheel of both Dallara F2 2018 cars.

Briton Aitken is completing a brilliant season in which he has scored three wins at Baku, Silverstone and Monza. Besides, Aitken also other four podium finishes throughout the season. After ten rounds, the Anglo-Korean driver sits fifth in the drivers’ standings with 159 points and still has a chance to finish as Vice-Champion.

Sato made his debut in the main Formula 1 feeder series at Spa-Francorchamps and the Japanese racer has steadily improved his performances in his Campos Racing-run Dallara. Sato sets his sights on driving his way into the points at the Yas Marina Circuit.

Campos Racing sits fifth in the Teams’ classification and feels very motivated for Abu Dhabi as it stepped up onto the podium there last year.

The luxury Yas Marina circuit, aside from white-sand beach resorts and hotels, features a 5.5-kilometer layout requiring medium downforce setups as its twenty-one corners include a variety of tight bends and long straights. Most drivers praise the circuit and it is described as a unique experience. The surface is rather smooth but, as the track is by the desert, it is also frequently covered with sand. Last but not least characteristic high temperatures will also play a key role, which affects tire wear.

Both free practice and qualifying sessions will take place on Friday at 11.30 and 19.00. Saturday’s race 1 with a mandatory pit stop is scheduled at 18.45 with Sunday’s sprint race bringing the curtain down at 13.30. All times are local (GMT +4).

Adrián Campos (President of Campos Racing): “We head for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix season finale having the same motivation we had at the season kick-off. We managed to bring strong results home in all the rounds of the 2019 season. Our goal is to grab more podium finishes and bring the curtain down on the 2019 season, which was positive both in performance in results, in style.”

Jack Aitken (Driver of Campos Racing): “I’m really looking forward to getting back in the car after such a long break, I’ve missed it! We want to finish on a high and try to improve our position in the championship.”

Marino Sato (Driver of Campos Racing): “Team showed strong performance in here last year, as well as we had a good test here. It’s going to be a last race of 2019 for me, l´ll be giving everything out there.”
