Fernández, Deledda and newcomer Schumacher completed a solid performance at the Sochi Autodrom, which brought the curtain down on the 2019 season
Campos Racing has put an end to the 2019 FIA Formula 3 Championship season in Russia with its three-car army coming close to a points finish. Alessio Deledda, Sebas Fernández and David Schumacher fired off remarkable runs despite they couldn’t make it to the points.
On Friday, Schumacher made a nice start to his first participation in the series with the German ace posting the fastest lap time of the drivers racing under the Campos Racing banner. Schumacher clocked a lap time of 1m55.258s with Fernández posting a best time of 1m55m414s. Deledda’s time was pretty close as well with the Italian setting a best lap of 1m56.138s. Later in qualifying, Fernández set to start from 20th on the grid with his lap of 1m54.046s. Further adrift, Schumacher lined up 24th with a best lap time of 1m54m889s and Deledda took the 28th grid slot for Saturday’s race 1 with a personal best of 1m56.251s.
When the lights went out, Campos Racing drivers immediately gained several places on the first lap. After 20 laps, Fernández took the checkered flag in 16th place with Deledda finishing 21st. Schumacher ended up in 22nd after dropping several places when another driver hit him.
On Sunday, race 2 saw Fernández putting in another solid recovery drive and the Spaniard was already fighting for the top-ten. Unfortunately, he was forced to retire from the race with just one lap to go. Schumacher crossed the finish line in 20th place with Deledda finishing 22nd.
The 2019 post-season testing will take place on October 20-22 at the Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo.
