German driver Flörsch is one of the motorsport’s highly-rated female youngsters and arrives at Campos Racing to contest the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship
Campos Racing is pleased to announce Sophia Flörsch as its latest addition to the driver line-up in the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship season. Flörsch will team up with previously announced Alex Peroni and Alessio Deledda to complete a talented roster of young drivers in the third-tier of Formula 1 feeder championship.
Flörsch, born in Grünwald on 1 December 2000, made her debut in karting in 2005 and competed in numerous championships across Europe until 2014. The German youngster stepped up to cars in 2015 when she entered the Ginetta Junior championship, in which she became the youngest driver to win a race in the series. Flörsch also achieved another milestone in the 2016 ADAC Formula 4 season when she was the first female driver to secure point-paying finishes.
More recently, Flörsch made headlines when she suffered a massive crash in the 2018 Macau Grand Prix. After undergoing surgery, the German ace made full recovery and contested the Formula Regional European Championship last year. For her 2020 campaign, she will work with former GP2 driver Facu Regalia, who will work as her driver coach throughout the season. Regalia founded Road to Success two years ago, a company that focuses on coaching.
Campos Racing, which was founded by former Minardi F1 driver Adrián Campos, has a long tradition in finding and nurturing emerging talents such as Fernando Alonso, Antonio García, Álex Palou or Leonardo Pulcini. Pulcini finished 4th in the drivers’ standings in the 2018 GP3 Series with two wins and three other podium finishes to his name in a Campos Racing-run Dallara.
Flörsch will get her first outing in a Campos Racing-run Dallara on March 1-3 in Sakhir during the collective testing held by the FIA Formula 3.
Adrián Campos (President of Campos Racing): “It is a great privilege to have Sophia in our ranks. She is one of the most talented drivers and a true example of perseverance. Sophia will keep fighting to continue making progress in one of the toughest championships on the international scene: the FIA Formula 3 championship.”
Sophia Flörsch (Driver of Campos Racing in the FIA Formula 3): “I am very happy to be competing in the FIA F3 Championship together with Campos Racing. It is going to be my first season in the actual Formula 3 car with Pirelli tires, DRS and the Mecachrome engine. Without any test days I have to learn a lot but I am looking forward to competing against the best drivers. For me it’s important to get better each race weekend, work together with the team and have fun. It’s going to be a great year. The experience of Adrian Campos and his team will for sure help me.”
