Barcelona Marks the Midpoint of the FIA Formula 3 Season

The upcoming round, considered the home event for both Campos Racing and Mari Boya, will bring the first half of the current FIA Formula 3 season to a close. After his podium finish in Monaco, Boya, along with Tsolov, will aim to confirm their strong form at Montmeló. Inthraphuvasak is also prepared to deliver his best performance at a circuit he knows inside out

The end of May and the beginning of June will be marked by the fifth round of the 2025 FIA Formula 3 Championship, held at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. This round will serve as the halfway point of the FIA’s third-tier single-seater series. Barcelona is the home event for both Mari Boya and Campos Racing, bringing an extra boost of motivation from racing on familiar ground. Nikola Tsolov and Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak will also enjoy the support of passionate Spanish fans as they compete in their F3 machines for the only Spanish team on the grid.

Tsolov made a definitive statement in the title fight—if there had been any remaining doubts—by dominating Sunday’s race in Monaco. Controlling the race from pole position and setting the fastest lap, the “Bulgarian Lion” climbed to third in the overall standings with 61 points, significantly closing the gap to the leader, Brazil’s Rafael Câmara. Having already won the Sprint Race in Bahrain and finished third in Imola’s Saturday race, Tsolov has consistently delivered strong performances in Barcelona and heads to the Catalan circuit as a top contender.

As mentioned, Boya will have the backing of the home crowd in the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya grandstands. Fresh off his recent podium finish on the streets of Monaco—further proof of his upward trajectory this season—he returns to the same circuit where he claimed his maiden FIA Formula 3 victory in 2024. There could be no better way to capitalize on his current form than by returning to the podium at home.

Inthraphuvasak started the year strong with a valuable points haul in Melbourne, though the Thai driver has been hindered in recent rounds by qualifying results. However, having raced in various categories at Barcelona, he is eager to turn things around this weekend and close out the first half of the season on a high note.

In the teams’ standings, Campos Racing currently sits second with 106 points.

Since 1991, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has hosted the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix. With its 4.657 kilometers, both drivers and engineers are extremely familiar with the track thanks to the numerous tests and races held there each year. As a clockwise circuit, the left-side tires undergo the most wear during the race, particularly through demanding corners like Turn 3 and Turn 9, which require high levels of mechanical and aerodynamic grip. The recent removal of the chicane in the third sector allows drivers to approach the long start-finish straight at higher speeds, increasing overtaking opportunities.

Free Practice and Qualifying will both take place on Friday at 09:55 and 15:00, respectively. The Sprint Race is scheduled for Saturday at 10:05, while the Feature Race will be held on Sunday at 08:30. All times are local (Spanish time).

Adrián Campos (Team Principal of Campos Racing): “We are having a fantastic year in FIA Formula 3, and our goal is to keep the momentum going in Barcelona, which is also the team’s home race. As always, everyone is extremely motivated, but racing in front of your home crowd gives you an extra edge. That’s the case for Mari, who just stepped on the podium in Monaco and already knows what it’s like to win here. Nikola claimed his second win just a few days ago, and given how strong we’ve always been in Barcelona, I believe all three of our drivers—including Tasanapol—can fight at the front.”
