Campos Racing endured a hard weekend in the frame of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, which hosted the seventh round of the season. Caldwell, competing at his home round, tried his best but he couldn’t Lady Luck on his side and couldn’t gain so many places to make it into the points. As mentioned above, Swiss racer Ralph Boschung couldn’t take part in the races as his neck issues persisted after free practice and qualifying sessions.

On Friday, in a free practice session red-flagged twice, Boschung clocked a time of 1m41.697s while his teammate Caldwell scored a lap of 1m42.704s. Later in qualifying, in an extremely closely-fought session with very small differences, Caldwell’s best effort was a lap of 1m39.580s and set to start from 16th on the grid in both races. Boschung produced a lap of 1m39.597s but unfortunately his physical conditions made absolutely impossible to start this weekend’s races.

Saturday’s sprint race was marred by rain and the start took place behind the safety car following two formations laps. Caldwell fended off his rivals in the opening laps. In a race in which nursing wet tires to the finish on a drying track was key, Caldwell managed to accomplish it with success. Finally, he crossed the finish line in 18th place.

Sunday’s feature race was a completely new story in dry conditions. Caldwell chose to start on the soft compound in a race in which the safety car was deployed soon following an incident involving Dennis Hauger and Roy Nissany. As a result, first stint on the soft compound could be slightly longer as race was back in green on lap 6. Caldwell made his mandatory pit stop on lap 12 and pushed hard for the remaining of the 29-lap race distance. The Briton moved past Cem Bolukbasi and took the checkered flag in 17th place.

The eighth round of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship season will be held at the Red Bull Ring next weekend.
