Campos Racing delivers robust performance in Barcelona testing

Boschung and Caldwell carried out a positive three-day FIA Formula 2 test in preparation of the first event of the season on European soil next week

The FIA Formula 2 collective testing came to an end with Campos Racing showing excellent pace with their drivers Ralph Boschung and Olli Caldwell at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Boschung and Caldwell completed a superb work throughout the week and they had the chance to run both in dry and wet conditions.

On the opening day, Boschung and Caldwell focused on running on the hard compound in the morning before started raining. The Swiss racer clocked a best lap of 1m30.361s in the morning and made it into the top ten with Caldwell posting a personal best of 1m30.856s. In the afternoon, lap times were significantly quicker as it was time for qualifying simulations on soft tires. Boschung set the fastest lap with a time of 1m27.929s, the single driver breaking the 1m28s barrier that first day. Caldwell, who continued running long stints, posted a lap time of 1m30.820s in the second session.

Wednesday saw another encouraging testing work coming from Boschung and Caldwell. In the morning session, Boschung’s best lap of 1m29.695s was 4th-fastest in the timesheets with the British driver posting a best time of 1m30.245s to his name and finished in ninth place. In the second three-hour session in the afternoon, Caldwell took sixth place in the standings with a lap time of 1m30.516s. In fact, the Briton colored in purple the first sector in his Campos Racing-run Dallara. Boschung posted a best lap time of 1m33.603s.

On the final day, Boschung lapped a time of 1m28.321s in the morning with Caldwell a mere three tenths further adrift in 1m28.648s. In the afternoon, Boschung clocked a lap time of 1m34.481s in long stint simulations and Briton Caldwell scored a best lap of 1m35.026s.

The FIA Formula 2 Championship will head to Imola for the third event of the 2022 season on 22-24 April.
